At least four wildfires have been burning in the Bizanet area, close to Narbonne city in the eastern Occitania region of southern France, since 29 June, causing casualties and damage.
As of 30 June, according to the Inter-ministerial Crisis Management Operational Centre (COGIC) the still active wildfire has burnt approximately 200 ha in Bizanet, 80 ha in Quillanet, 25 ha in Jasse Gaussan, 5 ha in Oliaux. In Bizanet several people have been displaced from a campsite and at least 1,000 houses have been threatened, a road was closed between Narbonne and Carcassonne.
National authorities deployed 310 firefighters, four firefighting planes, one aircraft and one helicopters.
Over the next 48 hours, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS), the fire danger forecast is expected to be from high to very extreme in the affected area.
