France - Floods (media, Meteo France, Copernicus EMS) (ECHO Daily Flash of 12 February 2026)

  • Since 11 February, severe weather-related events, including heavy rain and strong winds, have caused widespread flooding in southern France, resulting in casualties and damage.
  • As of 12 February, media reports confirm one fatality in Landes, two injuries in Tarn-et-Garonne, and one injury on the A9 motorway near Lespignan.
  • Power outages have affected 850 000 homes across Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie, while schools have been closed and key roads, including major routes in Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales, remain impassable.
  • Meanwhile, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMSR866) was activated on the morning of 11 February to monitor floods in the Bordeaux region.
  • Between 12 and 13 February, further rainfall is forecast nationwide, with Météo-France issuing red alerts for wind in Aude, flood risk in Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne, and avalanche risk in Savoie.
