1.0 GENERAL SITUATION

The declaration of the State of Natural Disaster remains in effect for affected areas in the Western Division and is to end on the 19th of April, 2012.

The NEOC together with the Western Division EOC and District EOCs continues to monitor the situation on the ground.

Distribution of relief items continue in affected areas through the coordinated effort of government and nongovernment agencies with the assistance of aid from donor partners and organizations.

Damage assessments continue to be carried out by respective Agencies for the preparation of rehabilitation plans.

Post disaster health assessments of evacuation centers and affected areas continue.

Cleaning up of affected areas continue to be carried out by the National Fire Authority, the Fiji Correctional Services and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces personnel.

2.0 WEATHER

Situation: A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain, lying to the north of Fiji is gradually drifting southwards and expected to start affecting the northern parts of Fiji by midday Friday.

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Occasional showers over the interior and eastern parts of the larger islands. Elsewhere, fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls likely.
Moderate southeast winds.
