The Commissioner Eastern Division, Luke Moroivalu today received relief items from the Methodist Church in Fiji to help with relief efforts in the wake of the devastation caused by severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.
In receiving the donation on behalf of Government, Mr Moroivalu commended the Church for their effort.
“It is indeed grateful that the Church has come out to join Government in the disaster operation recovery and rehabilitation work. The donation will assist those who have suffered and lost their belongings during the cyclone,” Mr Moroivalu said.
Deputy Secretary for the Methodist Church, Rev Ili Vunisuwai said the donation was generously given by the members of the church all over Fiji who were not affected by Winston.
“The essential items have been packed and ready to be shipped to Koro, Batiki and other affected communities in the Lomaiviti group,” Rev Vunisuwai said.
The Church has been closely liaising with the National Disaster Management Office and the Divisional Commissioners for the coordination of relief items.
