The tropical depression which formed over the Fiji Group on Thursday, 8 March was responsible for much of the flooding that resulted from periods of heavy rain in some parts of the two main islands.
The Fiji Red Cross Society's (FRCS) National Office as well as its respective branches in the North and West, has closely monitored the situation over the last five days.
In Labasa, the FRCS Labasa Branch completed its assessment and provided immediate relief of bed sheets to 28 of the 45 people who were housed at the evacuation centre at the Labasa Civic Centre over the weekend.
The Labasa Branch of the FRCS continues to work alongside the Divisional DISMAC team in carrying out a detailed assessment of the affected areas in the North and to determine if the FRCS needs to provide further assistance to those affected.
Last month, the FRCS assisted 260 families in the North and the West with Black Packs, water and water containers following similar flooding (see press releases issued on 19 and 22 February).
