National Emergency Operation Center: Tropical Cyclone Winston Situation Report 52 of 04/03/2016
The purpose of this report is to provide the update on the current operations undertaken after TC Winston.
This Situation Report is issued by the National Emergency Operation Centre and covers the period from 1600 hours 04/03/2016 to 0000 hours on 05/03/2016. Updates in this report summarise all reports and briefs submitted from various EOC’s in the four divisions.
1.0 HIGHLIGHTS OF LAST 12 HOURS
Provincial meeting continued today covering two tikinas (Tikina Rewa & Tikina Burebasaga) with a total of 10 villages
14 community schools in the Central Division were assisted today with the following items:
Shelter Tool Kits
A Disaster Response Team from the world renowned logistic company DHL is in the country to assist the National Disaster Management Office.
Ration Distribution for Nairai Island has been completed and all evacuation centres have been De-activated
Ration distribution for Batiki Island has been completed and three evacuation centres have been de-activated and the Batiki District School will resume class on Monday, 07/03/16
MV Vunilagi completed the 1 month ration distribution to the Yasawa’s with the following tikina’s:
Tikina Viwa, Tikina Waya, Tikina Vuda: 15 villages and 4 schools
PM urges people to be patient about food rations distribution - Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has urged people affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston to be patient about the provision of relief assistance. Bainimarama made this comment while visiting affected villages on the Island of Ovalau. He has also apologized to the people of Ovalau in the delay of distribution of food rations in some of the villages on the island.
69 schools currently being used as evacuation centres will be closed by Sunday afternoon so that students can go to school from Monday
