This Situation Report No.17 is issued by the National Emergency Operation Centre and covers the period from 2000 hours – 0800 hours on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Evacuations Centres in Lau and Lomaiviti in the Eastern Division are now closed as well as the Northern Division EOC’s.

• The total number of active Evacuation Centres is 202 with 8,935 evacuees.

• 23 roads in the Central, 50 roads in the Western and 17 roads in the Northern Division are still closed.

• Vunisea Jetty in Kadavu washed out, repairs are ongoing by FRA to be completed by 12/04/2018. Jetty should be operational by 13/04/2018.

• A total of 36 evacuation centres in 14 villages have been activated in Kadavu with a total of 948 evacuees.

• Initial Damage Assessment (IDA) - 179 houses are partly damaged while 43 are completely destroyed in 20 villages in Kadavu as confirmed at 2400hrs, 11/4/2018

• Ferry services in the Northern Division will resume for normal operations on 12/04/2018.

• All schools in Northern Division are open, except the schools in the Labasa greater area which are facing water disruption and clean up to be completed.

• Health Team are on standby monitoring the situation in the Northern Division- all areas affected from flooding are currently disinfected.

• Health and NFA personnel in the Western Division have commenced the cleaning up and fumigation of schools that were used as Evacuation Centres.

• Evacuation in the Western Centres- 159 active centres with 7804 evacuees.

• Seven Evacuation Centres are active in the Central Division with 183 evacuees.

Weather Update

• A flood alert remains for most parts of Fiji.

• A trough of Low Pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over eastern and northern part of Fiji.

• A strong wind warning remains in force for Rotuma waters.
