The Latter Day Saints Church donated more than $36,000 worth of essential food items, blankets and bottled water to the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) today.
Ministry of Provincial Development and NDMO permanent secretary, Inia Seruiratu said that Government was thankful and grateful for the assistance by the church.
“We are aware that there are Fijians in the Western Division who are in desperate need of assistance, particularly with basic needs and the assistance from the church is very much appreciated. Be assured that this will be of benefit to the flood victims,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“Government is doing its best in restoring essential services in the Western Division with the limited resources and constraints that face.”
LDS church president, Kenneth Klinger said the church looked forward to the opportunity to assist flood victims of Fiji irrespective of whether they were members of the church or not.
Mr Klinger added that it was critical that the church worked together with Government in providing relief assistance.
The LDS Church is also trying to look after the welfare of its own members who were affected in the March floods.
