Immediate flood threat eases in western Fiji

Updated January 26, 2012 10:11:31

The good news from Fiji is that there's been an easing in the torrential rain.

Already flood levels are falling in Nadi, the worst affected centre.

More than 2,000 people, including about 1,000 children have taken shelter in evacuation centres.

Several hundred have been rescued from the flooded regions.

Fiji media say the death toll is eight, including a family of four who were killed in a landslide triggered by the torrential rain.
