The Labasa Mayor, Dr Pradeep Singh has confirmed that roads conditions in Labasa are gradually improving.
He says this has been possible through the Government grant for the upgrade of roads in Labasa.
"As far as the Labasa town itself is concerned we are improving on our roads which, was deteriorating due to the series of floods."
Dr Singh said this improvement has put people at ease because in the past they faced continuous transport difficulties due to the deteriorating road conditions.
"Most of the roads have improved and road works are in progress at the moment in Labasa and it has brought a lot of relief to the people of Labasa," he said.
The Labasa Mayor acknowledged Government for its assistance.
"I would like to thank Government also for the grant that we received for the upgrading of the roads and the Challenge Fund that we received and we have applied for further funds," Mr Singh added.
Just last week, the Interim Acting Prime Minister Ratu Epeli Nailatikau informed the media that the road upgrading programme for this year is on track despite negative comments on the issue.
Government has allocated about $81million for construction, upgrading and maintenance of roads, bridges and jetties around the country in the 2008 Budget.
