Tropical Cyclone Winston, the most powerful cyclone to strike Fiji, cut a path of destruction across the country on 20 and 21 February 2016. It caused widespread damage in all four divisions. On 21 March, the Fijian Government extended the State of Natural Disaster in areas severely affected by the cyclone until 19 April. The situation has since been compounded by heavy rains which has caused widespread flooding and washed away replanted crops.
