Tropical Cyclone Vaianu is a Category 2 system (6 April) located west-northwest of Fiji and forecast to intensify to Category 3. No landfall is expected, but outer rainbands are already affecting the country.
Impacts are driven by heavy rainfall rather than wind, with a nationwide heavy rain warning in place. Flash flooding is affecting low-lying and urban areas; rainfall exceeded 120 mm in 24h (Navua). Evacuations have been reported in Central Division.
Authorities have implemented preventive measures, including nationwide school closures and transport disruptions. The Anticipatory Action Framework has not been activated.
The situation is compounded by recent flooding (TC Urmil), increasing vulnerability. Further flooding is expected over the next 48–72 hours.
