Japan has expressed its sympathy and concern for the people of Fiji at the loss of lives and devastation inflicted by Cyclone Ami.

Japan's Ambassador to Fiji, Kenro Iino, today assured Government that his Government understands the severity of the situation in Fiji and will work closely with various Fiji Government ministries and non-government organizations involved in rehabilitation efforts.

"I would like to believe that Japan's assistance schemes to Fiji are not only effective towards infrastructure development, but also humanitarian in terms of relieving the hardships, which follow natural disasters such as Cyclone Ami," said Ambassador Iino.
