Fiji: Bua helps in Labasa clean-up

Government officials in the Bua Province have been asked to move to Labasa and assist in the massive clean up, following the devastating impact of Cyclone Ami on the northern town.

District Officer Bua, Ratu Orisi Baleitavea, said his officers stationed in Nabouwalu are expected to leave for Labasa this afternoon to join forces in the cleaning up campaign.

Mr. Balitavea, a former divisional Planning officer Northern, has also thanked the Labasa town council in its effort to clean up the Labasa town.

Commenting on the problems faced in the Bua Province during and after Cyclone Ami, Mr. Balitavea said communication was one of the major problems faced by the Province. However all communication are now back to normal.

Ratu Orisi added that the areas of Kubulau in Bua sustained damages in terms of food crops and a few houses.

He urged the people in the Northern Division to begin with rehabilitation works instead of totally relying on Government assistance.
