DISMAC warns people of possible flooding

Government is advising citizens in flood prone areas to be prepared to evacuate following reports of adverse weather conditions.

Citizens are urged to have food, water and change of clothes on stand-by and move to near-by evacuation centres.

The Office of the Commissioner Western has issued a warning to the public this afternoon in the Western Division to start preparing while there is daylight and to start moving to higher grounds.

Parts of Rakiraki Town are now flooded and under two to three feet of water. A landslide in Tauvegavega has also partially damaged a house in Ba and the family has been relocated to a safe place.

Two 9-tonne trucks recently left Suva this afternoon to deliver food rations to affected people in the Western Division.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, Government remains concerned for those who are still in evacuation centres in the Western Division and will ensure they are looked after.
