China donates to relief fund

The People’s Republic of China Minister for Commerce Chen Deming has given the Fijian Government $357,000 for flood relief efforts.

Mr Deming, who is here on a three-day State visit, met with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama this morning to hold discussions on a number of key bilateral issues.

The Minister donated $357,000 for the flood victims to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.

This is in addition to the assistance from other Chinese companies operating here in Fiji.

The China Railway First Group Fiji Limited also met with Prime Minister Bainimarama and donated $30,000 to the flood relief funds as well.

The company’s group President Mr Sun Yonggang, who is in the country, has asked his staff here in Fiji to not only work on their projects here but to also assist the locals who have been badly affected.

Prime Minister Bainimarama thanked both the Chinese Government and the company for their assistance.

CRFG Fiji Limited Director Mr George Qiao said Mr Yonggang had read of the two floods in Fiji and was quite concerned about the people of Fiji because the company employed a lot of locals for their on - site and management posts.

Mr Qiao said the company would be doing more in the future to assist since they had also assisted in the previous floods through the donation of a generator and food packs to those affected.
