Banks donate to flood disaster relief

Two commercial banks today donated a total $25,000 to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.

The Westpac Bank gave $15,000 to the fund and the Bank of the South Pacific gave $10,000.

The bank has given $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity while Rotary Club was given $5,000 and food packs were given directly to those communities in dire need of assistance.

“We will always remain very active in assisting those in need as we are a local bank,” Mr McCarthy said.

Westpac contribution to the relief efforts target needy children through NGO’s like Save the Children Fund Fiji, which was given $5,000, and the Foundation for Education of Needy Children in Fiji (FENC).

“Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones and their belongings during the recent floods,” Acting General Manager Westpac, Gavin Kinnear, said.

The Westpac Bank has encouraged customers to visit their nearest branch or contact their relationship manager to discuss financial options available if they are experiencing difficulties as a result of the floods.
