ABD grant of US$1 million to the Fijian Government

The Government of Fiji this week acknowledged the work of the Asian Development Bank in supporting Fiji in its efforts to develop the necessary infrastructure and improve the livelihoods of its people.

In signing the Grant Agreement on behalf of Cabinet, the Prime Minister mentioned that the Bank’s presence in the country has supported Government’s efforts towards greater stability and sustainable development.

ADB has provided a US$1 million grant to the Government of Fiji to help fund humanitarian and relief efforts to those that have been affected by the recent January floods. The funds will be used to help provide temporary shelter, food rations, safe drinking water, and medical supplies as well as finance repairs to medical centers and schools.

The Prime Minister added the support from ADB is a step in the right direction as Government has been in consultation with the Bank on re-engagement and funding of new businesses.
