Gamogofa Zone, January 11, 2012 (Arbaminch) - Some 53,000 hectares land will developed through irrigation in Gamogofa Zone, South Ethiopia Peoples' State in the current Ethiopian year, the zonal agriculture department said.
Department Head, Tefera Ashine said over 2.5 million quintals output is expected to be harvested from the stated area of land.
Tefera said more than 59,000 farmers will cultivate vegetables and fruits, among others, which have great market demand.
Over 25,000 quintals fertilizer is being distributed among the farmers, he said.
More than 68,000 farmers had harvested over 1.1 million quintals output from over 22,725 hectares land developed through irrigation last year in the zone, he said.
