Highlights:
New and ongoing conflict between government and militia forces in Amhara has limited access to 75% of the region. Despite this, UNICEF continued dispatching critical supplies to partners and ensured last mile distributions.
As of 30 September, a total of 24,929 confirmed cholera cases have been reported in Ethiopia’s longest cholera outbreak on record. Altogether 327 people have died (case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.37%) across 10 regions.
UNICEF reached more than 360,000 people with primary healthcare services and medical consultations in regions affected by drought and conflict during the reporting month, while 193,000 people accessed safe drinking water through rehabilitation of existing non-functional water schemes and water trucking.
UNICEF’s $674 million HAC appeal for Ethiopia remains 72 per cent unfunded, as humanitarian needs persist amongst vulnerable populations across the country, particularly those in hard-to-reach locations.
