UNHCR Deputy High Commissioner Visits the Region:
The UNHR Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Alexander Aleinikoff, made a familiarisation visit to a number of East African countries including Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya. These countries continue to receive thousands of Somalis seeking international protection due to conflict and violence in Somalia. While in Kenya, he made a one-day visit to Dadaab refugee camp and held a number of meetings with government officials, donors, implementing partners and UNHCR staff members. Mr. Aleinikoff was appointed UNHCR Deputy High Commissioner in December 2009 and took up his new post in February 2010.
