Statement from International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander in response to the Oxfam report on the world food crisis:
"While we remain focussed on the impact of the economic crisis on our own countries, we must not forget that it is the developing world that is hit hardest, with a growing number of people going hungry every day.
That is why the UK Government has already committed =A342 million to the Horn of Africa and I am currently in Ethiopia to see the situation on the ground for myself.
We are also providing food aid to other badly affected countries and have humanitarian advisors working hard to make sure aid is getting through to those most in need.
We will continue to urge other countries to increase the aid they are providing so that we meet both the immediate emergency and longer term needs of millions of people around the world."
