Jimma May 15/2014 The clean water project being carried out in Jimma town of Oromia State with 300 million Birr will commence operation within the coming two months, the town water and sewerage service office announced.
Up on completion, the facility will raise the clean water coverage of the town to 100 percent from the current 60 percent, Ahmed Kedir, head of the office said.
The facility, its 96 percent of the construction has so far completed, will serve the town for the coming 10 years without water interruptions.
The current water shortage in the town ensued from natural causes, he added. The water facility which was constructed decades ago in the town was to serve 100,000 people. Currently, number of the residents has reached 200,000.
The town was using the water from this facility without any expansion works.
The cost for the construction of the facility was secured from the World Bank, the regional government, the town administration and stakeholders.
