OVERVIEW
The Mai-Aini refugee camp was established in May 2008 to accommodate Eritrean refugees seeking international protection.
RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
In October 2018, the emergency response developed well defined coordination structures and all partners came to speed with the necessary response in terms of delivery of protection and emergency assistance to the high number of asylum- seekers that have been arriving in Shire including at Mai Aini camp since mid-September. In this regard, emergency interventions have been launched to ensure adequate reception conditions. During October, 25 temporary communal emergency shelters, 36 communal latrines and 18 tap stands were made available to new arrivals in Mai Aini refugee camp.
