The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) together with the Gode sub-branch of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) last week carried out an emergency assistance to some 1,255 vulnerable households that were affected by the flood in Kelafo, Gode Zone (Somali Region). The assistance benefited 19 flooded or partly flooded villages on the west bank of the WabiShebele river.
The relief assistance, which consisted of non-food items, was intended to speed the recovery of the flood-stricken population. Consequently, each household received 1 blanket, 1 tarpaulin, 1 jerry can, 400g soap, 15 kg seeds and 1 hoe.
During the first weeks of last mouth the ICRC had also provided shelter and nonfood items comprising over 1,00 blankets, more than 500 tarpaulins and cooking utensils for over 500 flood-stricken families in 6 kebeles in Jijiga town and 14 surrounding kebeles.
