The Humanitarian Coordination Forum (HCF) established in October 2023 comprises humanitarian agencies having a liaison function with the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is an umbrella entity for various United Nations (UN) and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) to play their humanitarian role in a coordinated manner. The forum currently has 19 UN agencies and 13 INGOs as members with more than 110 active participants. Members discharge their independent roles and mandates as individual organizations. Under the HCF they plan and act collectively with a united voice in synergy, coordination and with capacity to support the AUC in discharging its efforts in early warning, preparedness, and response to humanitarian situations on the African continent. The forum meets on a monthly basis, having convened eight times in the year under review. The forum with prevention as its priority area of intervention, strives to make a difference before crises happen on the continent, among other objectives. Humanitarian diplomacy, humanitarian action, access, and coordination remain its critical areas of intervention for emergencies affecting the continent.
