• Approximately 4.4 million people were internally displaced across Ethiopia as of June, a 40 percent increase from January, the UN reports. USAID/BHA supported the delivery of multi-sector assistance to 365,000 IDPs across the country between January and August.
• Food security is projected to improve in Kenya and deteriorate slightly in Somalia during the coming months, as drought recovery continues.
FEWS NET projects that populations in both countries may face negative effects from El Niño-related heavy rainfall and flooding.
• Conflict in Somalia’s Galmudug State has displaced more than 8,000 people and further deteriorated critical WASH infrastructure, the UN reports.
