Nekempt, January 7, 2010 (Nekempt) - Over 25,000 hectares of land is being developed through irrigation in East wolloga Zone of Oromia State, the zonal agriculture and rural development office said
Horticulture expert with the office, Daba Biru told ENA that the stated area of land is being developed in 17 woredas of the zone through modern and traditional irrigation schemes.
He said water pump have already been distributed to farmers. Farmers are developing maize, chickpea , hair coat bean , potatoes, onion, papaya mango ,avocado on the land, among others.
The office has planned to develop over 42 hectares of land in this crop season, he said.
