SITUATION OVERVIEW
Conflict, severe drought conditions, seasonal flooding, displacement and cholera remain the key drivers of WASH needs in Ethiopia. In 2023, humanitarian WASH needs have increased with an estimated 20.3 million people in need of WASH assistance.
Lack of access to protected water, improved sanitation facilities and hygiene practice increases the risk of disease outbreak and malnutrition. The conflict in Northern Ethiopia negatively impacted infrastructures and access to WASH services. The impact of climate change and recurrent droughts in the South and East of the country are also negatively impacting access to WASH services.
