S.Ethiopia Peoples' State, January 9, 2010 (Soddo) - Development projects have been carried out in South Ethiopia Peoples' State at a cost of over 1.4 billion Birr with a view to ensuring food security in South Ethiopia Peoples' State, regional agriculture and rural development bureau said.
Regional finance and economic development bureau deputy head, Mohammed Nur said various development projects have been carried out in the first round food security program during the past five years in the state.
Speaking at the opening of a relevant training in Soddo Town, Mohammed, who is also food security work process coordinator, said more than 1.5 million people benefit from the program annually.
The second round safety net program will be launched in the current month.
Participants of the program have managed to improve their livelhoods, he said.
Some 210 food security work process coordinators drawn from Sidama, Gedeo, Gamogofa, South Omo and Bench Majji Zones, among others, took part in the training.
