Ethiopia Priority Humanitarian Response and Critical Funding Gaps (October- December 2024)

Attachments

This Priority Humanitarian Response and Critical Funding Gaps document incorporates the latest analysis, including the results from the recent Belg (spring rains) seasonal assessment, and critical priorities identified in the Call for Anticipatory Action to mitigate needs due to the expected La Nina-induced drought in southern and southeastern parts of the country. It outlines the priorities for humanitarian response from October-December 2024 and critical pipeline gaps to enable response until February 2025.

Overview
The humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia has remained dire since June 2024, when the second Priority Humanitarian Response and Critical Funding Gaps analysis was published, which identified an urgent funding shortfall of $877.8 million. Climate induced disasters, such as devastating landslides and floods,
have intensified the situation, significantly affecting vulnerable populations and worsening food insecurity and malnutrition. The landslide in Gofa Zone is a tragic example, which resulted in the loss of 232 lives and affected 14,000 individuals, including many who have been displaced.
