Ethiopia - Movements from and to Sudan at the border with Ethiopia, Flow Monitoring Infographic (2024)

Attachments

In Ethiopia, IOM observes daily movements across six cross-border points through its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) methodology and Flow Monitoring Registry (FMR) tool.

In 2024, out of the flows observed in Metema and Kurmuk, the two assessed cross-border points between Sudan and Ethiopia, 59,881 flows were forced movements due to conflict or returns after forced displacement that had originated from or were intended to Sudan. The breakdown of these movements from and to Sudan is presented in this infographic, alongside a timeline of events. The data can also be accessed on the online dashboard here.

Other reasons for migration, including voluntary return, are not included in this infographic. In addition, given the focus on flows from and to Sudan, this infographic does not present movements identified in Metema and Kurmuk but from and to other countries, and movements observed at the four additional cross-border points. Monthly dashboards including all observed flows across the six cross-border points can be accessed here.
