Ethiopia: Mothers', children inoculation service coverage in Afar reaches 70 percent

Semera, January 7, 2010 (Semera) - Mothers' and children inoculation service coverage of the Afar State has presently reached 70 percent, the states health bureau said.

At the opening of a two-day relevant training at Semera town of the state, bureau head Awol Wogril said close to 416,000 mothers living in different parts of the region received anti lockjaw and other diseases immunization service during the first and second quarter of the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

Some 277,000 children below five-years-of-age received anti diseases inoculations during the reported time, he said, adding children have been receiving Vitamin 'A' and nutritious food stuffs.

According to the head, mothers living in different parts of the region were also receiving prenatal and postnatal healthcare services.

Meanwhile, he said, the bureau announced a plan to launch a 10-day mothers' and children inoculation campaign across the 32 woreda of the state in the coming week.

The head called upon all stakeholders on the occasion to play their level best toward the success of the upcoming immunization campaign.
