In the second half of 2024, six different forecast sources converged on a consensus that the October to December rainy season would likely experience below-average rainfall. This forecasted drought was set to worsen already dire conditions, as communities were still recovering from the impact of the 2020-2022 drought—the worst in recent history. In view of this, the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF) allocated $8 million drought anticipatory action allocation, in complementarity with CERF anticipatory action allocation
of $10 million, amounting to $18 million combined. This EHF allocation marked a pioneering step for CBPF engagement in anticipatory action in Ethiopia.
