The humanitarian need in Ethiopia is critically high and complex, particularly in the conflict-hit Amhara and Oromia regions as well as Tigray and South Ethiopia regions. Severe food insecurity, worsening malnutrition and large-scale population displacements are being reported. In addition to conflict, climate-emergency such as flooding and landslides and disease outbreaks are exacerbating the vulnerability of affected populations, requiring urgent inter-sectoral humanitarian response. This First Reserve Allocation was launched in July 2024 to respond to the ‘Priority Humanitarian Response and Critical Funding Gaps’ document (June 2024) – which seeks close to US$1 billion to address humanitarian priorities and critical gaps during the June – August period. Funded partners are already implementing projects in the WASH, Nutrition, Health, ESNFI and Agriculture sectors.
