HIGHLIGHTS
The Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF) allocated over $62 million in 2024 through one standard allocation and four reserve allocations. The allocations addressed various priority needs, including crises caused by drought and conflict in regions such as Afar, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, Oromia, Somali, South Ethiopia and Tigray.
EHF also made a complementary drought anticipatory action (AA) allocation with Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) in September 2024. This first-of-its-kind AA allocation provided assistance before the drought's full impact was felt, protecting livelihoods and preventing a nutrition crisis in the south and south-eastern parts of Ethiopia. In 2024, CERF has supported Ethiopia with $43 million in total. CERF allocations were in complementarity to the EHF allocations.
Commitment to localization continued to be central to the EHF in 2024 and in the Fund’s strategic planning. In 2024, 49% of direct and indirect funding was allocated to local and national NGOs, and 40% was allocated directly to local and national NGOs - the highest percentage ever for EHF.
