Ethiopia: Farmers to develop over 19,000ha. land through irrigation

  • Some 92,500 farmers have launched activities to develop over 19,000 hectares land through irrigation in Mecha Woreda, West Gojjam Zone of Amhara State during the current dry season, woreda agriculture and rural development office said.

Office representative, Aychew Tesfaye told ENA that more than 39,000 quintals fertilizer, 215 quintals select seed and 240 water pumping machines is being distributed among the farmers.

The representative said over 1.7 million quintals output is expected to be harvested from the stated area of land to be developed through irrigation.

Aychew said more than 20,260 farmers who took part in irrigation development last year in the woreda had obtained 600,000 quintals output
