SCOPE

Since December 2024, the north east of Ethiopia and in particular Afar and Oromia regions have experienced a surge in seismic activity linked to the Fentale volcanic complex (OCHA). Starting in January 2025, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) deployed the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Emergency Site Assessment (ESA) in sites hosting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) primarily displaced due to the earthquakes. In each site, the assessment was conducted through group discussions with IDP key informants. The information is verified through shelter counting, direct observation, triangulation, and key informant interviews. The assessment includes information on the intentions and immediate needs of the displaced population in the site on the day of the assessment, as well as the conditions in the site.

This snapshot report presents key findings from the ESA assessment carried out on 29 January 2025 in Daka Hedu site, Daka Hedu kebele (admin 4), Fentale woreda (admin 3), East Shewa zone (admin 2), Oromia region (admin 1) of Ethiopia.
