Program Overview & Updates
During the quarter, IOM CCCM provided support to 188,361 individuals across 27 sites and 4 catchment areas through Area-Based Approach (ABA) with support from BHA, CERF and ECHO. However, by the end of March, IOM CCCM exited from 8 IDP sites located in 8 IDP sites located in Mekelle of Tigray, and Fafan Zone of Somali Region. Despite these exits, IOM CCCM continued to expand its Area based response in the Contested Northwestern Zone of Tigray. This expansion was carried out in coordination with the CCCM Cluster and OCHA. Across all areas of response, IOM CCCM maintained operations receiving 265 cases with 17 CCCM staff.
Context
In Ethiopia, conflict and climate shocks are expected to drive new displacement in 2025 while protracted displacement, resulting from absence of sustainable durable solutions to previous conflicts and low recovery from the 2022/2023 drought emergency, remains to constitute significant proportion of humanitarian needs. Though the HRP for the year is yet to be officially endorsed, preliminary planning figures indicate that about 10 million people will be targeted for multisectoral humanitarian response with an expected funding requirement of $2 billion. Given that the 2024 HRP only 31% funded and the ever-shrinking humanitarian funding landscape, a further diminished volume of funding is expected and there will be huge resource gap despite immense humanitarian needs in different parts of the country.
