Highlights 2024
In Ethiopia, IOM implements Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) programs across 57 IDP sites and 5 Community Resource Centers (CRCs) in the Oromia, Southern Ethiopia. Somali and Tigray regions, reaching approximately 269,050 people in 2024. In Ethiopia, Zite Manager was launched in March 2023, with support from GHPA/GFFO , BHA, CERF, and ECHO. This mechanism covers all IOM-managed sites with 35 dedicated CCCM field staffs receiving feedback and closing the feedback loop. During the year, IOM CCCM program scaled down and exited from 30 sites and one CRC. IOM expanded its area based response in the Northwest Tigray and in Mekelle since August 2024. IOM CCCM plans to fully implement the area-based response across Ethiopia in 2025 and strengthen the linkage with the durable solutions. In 2024, Ethiopia faced rising humanitarian challenges due to increased landslides and floods, with a La Niña event anticipated in Somali and Southern Oromia regions. Many IDPs in Konso, Southern Ethiopia began returning home early in the year. In Tigray, the regional and federal governments facilitated the return of 26,678 households (123,918 individuals) to the Southern and Northwestern zones. However, displacement in the Western Zone of Tigray remained unresolved, necessitating the establishment of Mai Dimu Planned Camp in Shire to provide better-coordinated assistance for overcrowded IDPs in Endabaguna.
