Food insecurity is currently a concern in north eastern Afar, parts of eastern Amhara, along the Tekeze catchment in Tigray, central and eastern Oromia, parts of Gurage and Halaba special zones of SNNPR and in the southern and south eastern pastoralist areas of Ethiopia.
According to FEWS NET, the arrival of the meher harvest in October 2014 will enable poor households in the eastern parts of the country meet their basic food requirements until December 2014. Similarly, the expected normal deyr (October to December) rains will improve water and pasture availability positively impacting the food security and nutritional situation of the pastoralist communities.
