OVERVIEW Review of the March-May (MAM) season

- A slightly delayed onset of rainfall was witnessed at the start of the season.

- Floods were reported across several areas, including southern Somalia where there were heavy Gu rains.

- Extreme temperatures affected the region in March, particularly in northern Ethiopia and Somalia, as well as in South Sudan, Uganda, and eastern Kenya.

Summary of the June-September (JJAS) outlook

- There is a high probability of above-average rains over central Sudan, eastern South Sudan, northern and southwestern Ethiopia, western Kenya, and eastern Uganda, resulting in a higher risk of floods in these areas.

- Western Uganda, South Sudan, southern Sudan, Djibouti, and western Eritrea are also expected to experience wetter-than-average conditions.

- Flooding in South Sudan this year is likely to be as bad as 2024 or worse.

- There is a high likelihood of above-average temperatures over much of the region, especially over southern Ethiopia and Somalia, eastern Kenya, and northern Sudan.
