Construction of 4 mln. Birr worth irrigation project underway

W.Shoa Zone, January 3, 2012 (Ambo) - Construction of an irrigation project is launched in Jeldu Woreda, West Shoa Zone of Oromia State with over four million Birr, the woreda agriculture development office said.

Irrigation development work process head with the office, Dejene Tilahun told ENA that the project scheduled to be finalized in June 2012 will have capacity to develop over 500 hectares land.

Dejene said more than 1000 farmers in the areas will benefit from the project.

The project will help the farmers to cultivate vegetables, maize and sorghum twice a year.

The budget for construction of the project was secured from the government and the public.

Meanwhile, construction of a similar project launched in Jeldu Woreda is nearing completion. It will have capacity to develop over 528 hectares land.

More than 1000 households will benefit from the project.
