Agency installs 100 automated weather forecast machines

Addis Ababa September 24/2014 The National Meteorology Agency announced that is has installed 100 automated weather forecast machines in different parts of the country to get timely data.

Speaking on a relevant meeting held here today, Agency Director- General Fetene Teshome said the installation of the machines is part of the efforts to supply timely and accurate information for the better performance of the agriculture sector.

The building its capability is important to provide relevant information to beneficiaries particularly, farmers so as to help them undertake their activities in line with the weather, he added.

The agency has also target to install additional 60 automated weather forecast machines in this Ethiopian fiscal year.

The amount and distribution of rainfall during this summer season was favorable for agriculture, said Dr. Diriba Koricha Meteorological Forecast and Early Warning Director at the Agency.

He said “The amount and distribution of rainfall in the summer was favorable for crop production, with balanced rainfall, it starts late in some parts of the country.”

Since the rainfall is normal in terms of amount and distribution, the areas that the rain starts late won't affect by the delay, he said.
