Vegetable farmers in Laguwen express satisfaction with Construction of Micro-dam

Mendefera, 13 January 2012 - Vegetable farmers in Laguwen, Gala-Nefehi sub-zone, said that the micro-dam constructed in the area is playing vital role in improving the living standard of the farming community. They indicated has alleviated the shortage of water supply in the sub-zone.

Mr. Gebremeskel Andetsion and Ms. Ogbamariam Wodlehaimanot, both members of the local inhabitants, said that such opportunity is vital for their livelihood, and appreciated the efforts and advice of agricultural experts. The inhabitants further indicated that they are judiciously utilizing water impounded by the micro-dam, and pledged to do their level best to satisfy market demand in the area.

The head of the Agricultural Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone, Mr. Tsegai Yacob, explained on his part that the staff of the Ministry would collaborate with the farmers to raise production, and indicated that the establishment of farmers association is of major significance for enhancing farmers’ endeavors to this end.

There exist about 29 micro-dams, 6 water reservoirs, in Gala-Nefhi sub-zone, in which 10 thousand farm plots have been put under cultivation by the Ministry of Agriculture.
