Washington, D.C. -- The Washington-based Eritrean Development Foundation (EDF) today announced that it has sent US$100,000.00 to the Eritrean Relief and Refugee Commission (ERREC) for emergency drought relief in Eritrea, including the purchase and immediate distribution of DMK, a locally produced supplementary food commodity. The funds will allow for the purchase of 237 tons or 237,000 kg. of DMK, which will feed 60,000 to 80,000 Eritrean children, expecting mothers and lactating mothers for one month The money was raised as part of EDF's May 22, 2003 Benefit Dinner.
"Thousands of Eritreans will benefit from the nutritional supplements purchased with proceeds from the 2003 Eritrean Development Foundation dinner," said EDF Executive Director and Board member Yobi Amdemariam. "However, there is still more action needed. Eritrea is still in dire need of emergency assistance to alleviate the impact of the current drought and international response has still been extremely limited," she added.

The Eritrean Development Foundation is an independent US-based 501=A9(3) non-profit humanitarian organization, working to promote economic, social, and cultural development in Eritrea. The Eritrean Development Foundation is committed to help Eritreans help themselves.
