Asmara, May 10, 2011- Access to potable water has shown a marked increase and that 95% of the inhabitants of the Central Region now have access to potable water, according to the head of Economic Development of Central Region, Mr. Yemane Abbai.
In an interview he gave in connection with the on-going symposium of the Central Region, Mr. Yemane stated that an investment of 120 million has enabled 84 villages to have access to potable water, and that over 77 micro dams have been constructed. He also went on to outline that tests to harvest water from fogs have been conducted and that satisfactory outcomes have been achieved as a result.
As regards irrigational farming, Mr. Yemane explained that soil and water conservation efforts in the region have been coupled with farming methods that are eco-friendly, and that preparations are underway to plant 4.5 tree seedlings this year.
