Asmara April 12, 2011- The strategy that Eritrea has been employing to develop the agricultural sector is bearing encouraging outcome, stated Mr. Solomon Haile, head of planning and strategy in the Ministry of Agriculture.
He explained that the Ministry has implemented major development programs aimed at ensuring effective and sustainable agricultural methods. In reference to the achievements registered in irrigation farming, Mr. Solomon has stated that gratifying outcome continues to be scored in the years following the achievement of independence. In this respect, extensive work has been exerted to put in place micro-dams and water reservoirs that are reinforcing undertakings aimed at achieving food security, he elaborated.
The department head went on to outline the measures being taken in the domain of meat and dairy products, in addition to boosting the supply of vegetables to the market.
Mr. Solomon also pointed out that the country’s colleges of agriculture and the vocational training centers are making satisfactory contribution in undertakings to strengthen food security programs and boosting the supply of animal feed. Moreover, he commended the initiatives that the farming communities are demonstrating in the development of the agriculture sector.
