Modern drip irrigation gaining momentum in Adi-Quala sub-zone

Adi-Quala, 30 April 2011 - The necessary infrastructure facilities are being put in place around the Sememo micro-dam in Adi-Quala sub-zone with a view to cultivating 80 hectares through modern drip irrigation, and thus obtain harvest 3 times a year.

The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, Mr. Bereket Tekle, explained that the farmlands would be distributed to 100 farmers and that it is already about to yield the first harvest.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to put 20 hectares under cultivation around Adi-Bahre in a similar manner. In this connection, Mr. Bereket called on farmers to make good use of the opportunity thus provided.

Mr. Tekleweini Woldegebreal, expert in seed fertilization, said on his part that substantial budget has been disbursed for the project, and that the necessary training has been given to the farmers so as to familiarize them with modern farming methods.
