Asmara, 2 August 2005 - The Eritrean government and the World Bank have signed a USD 24- million aid agreement here in Asmara.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of National Development, Dr. Woldai Futur, and the Representative of the World Bank, Mr. Colin Bruce signed the aid agreement. The plan is to be implemented in the period 2005-2009.
The aid is to be used in the implementation of the second phase of the HAMSET project, i.e. controlling and reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and TB as well as mother and child death rate.
The first phase of the HAMSET project was effective in combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other contagious diseases with a USD 40- million loan from the World Bank.
